چکیده

A general model is developed to describe the polarization-resolved second harmonic scattering (SHS) response from a liquid solution of molecular aggregates. In particular, spatial order introduced consider coherent contribution, also known as retarded besides incoherent contribution. The based on description suspension dyes represented by point-like nonlinear dipoles, locally excited fundamental field and radiating at frequency. It shown that for non-centrosymmetrical arrangement SHS very similar purely response, electric dipole origin. However, centrosymmetrical or close arrangements near cancellation contribution due inversion symmetry rule allows observation quadrupole This illustrated with experimental data obtained aqueous solutions dye Crystal Violet (CV) in presence sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) mixed water-methanol 4-(4–dihexadecylaminostyryl)-N-methylpyridinium iodide (DiA), cationic amphiphilic probe molecule strong first hyper-polarizability; both CV DiA form aggregates these conditions. quantitative determination retardation parameter opens window into aggregates, despite small nanoscale dimensions latter.

Optical second-harmonic images of sacran megamolecule aggregates.

We have detected a second-order nonlinear optical response from aggregates of the ampholytic megamolecular polysaccharide sacran extracted from cyanobacterial biomaterials by using optical second-harmonic-generation (SHG) microscopy. The SHG images of sacran cotton-like lump, fibers, and cast films showed SHG intensity microspots of several tens of micrometers in size. The dependence of the SHG...

Scattering-assisted second harmonic generation of structured fundamental wave.

We study a scattering-assisted second harmonic generation process of a structured fundamental wave, whose phase front is periodically modulated, in a homogenous nonlinear medium. Scattering-assisted multiple-conical second harmonic in a one-dimensional structured fundamental wave and second harmonic belts in two-dimensional cases were observed. The experimental results are consistent with our a...

Second-Harmonic Rayleigh Scattering from a Sphere of Centrosymmetric Material

We describe the electromagnetic theory of second-harmonic generation from the surface of a sphere that is small compared to the wavelength of light. In a leading-order expansion, the second-harmonic radiation is emitted in nonlocally excited electric dipole and locally excited electric quadrupole modes. We analyze the problem with particular emphasis on experimental aspects, such as the radiati...

Nonlinear Mie theory for second-harmonic and sum-frequency scattering

We present a theory for second-order nonlinear light scattering from spherical particles using source waves of arbitrary frequency and direction based on a combination of linear Mie scattering and reciprocity theory. The theory presented in this work extends existing theory applied to second-harmonic scattering by allowing noncollinear excitation waves of unequal frequency. The absence of an in...

Angle-resolved second-harmonic light scattering from colloidal particles.

We report angle-resolved second-harmonic generation (SHG) measurements from suspensions of centrosymmetric micron-size polystyrene spheres with surface-adsorbed dye (malachite green). The second-harmonic scattering profiles differ qualitatively from linear light scattering profiles of the same particles. We investigated these radiation patterns using several polarization configurations and part...
